Taipei Customs' Suggestions on International Online Shopping

With expectations to receive packages as soon as possible, importers should beware of the related regulations of customs clearance.

Shopping Festival is around the corner. More packages delivered via international shipments will go through customs clearance. Therefore, it’s important for importers to understand their rights and obligations before doing international online shopping.

    • Tax Exemption
Each importer has six chances of tax exemption in half year only when the duty paid value of an import package is under TWD2000.

    • Real-Name Authentication (EZ WAY)
National importers and foreign importers with Alien Resident Certificate (ARC) are strongly advised to register EZ WAY application, or they will be asked to present power of attorney on case-by-case basis to entrust customs brokers to declare their packages. Detailed information can be found on the website of Customs Administration.

    • African Swine Fever (ASF)
Customs has been strengthening border security, working on the anti-ASF project. Any meat product is not allowed to enter Taiwan because the contagious meat will harm the local swine and cause huge economic loss. Importers please visit the website of Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine, Council of Agriculture for more quarantine regulations.

    • Other Customs Control Measures
Customs control measures over import goods, including tariff rates, vary in HS codes, applicable laws and regulations. For example, permits from other agencies are required for specific items. Importers should refer to Customs Import Tariff
