Customs Administration of the Ministry of Finance indicates that, with the approach of ＂Double 11 Festival,＂ a big day for cross－border online shopping on November 11, Taiwan Customs has determined to strengthen all interdicting efforts to stop illegal activities at the border, including the import of restricted goods, false declaration for duty evasion, and smuggling of hazardous items such as firearms and narcotics.
Customs Administration explaines that, before shopping online through cross－border e－commmerce platforms, consumers are urged to first understand the customs declaration procedures and relevant import regulations. It is also recommended that they search possible tariff codes, tariff rates, and relevant import regulations for goods with the assistance of AI by visiting the “Cargo HS Code” section on the website of Customs Administration （https://hscode.customs.gov.tw/）. If the goods are subject to import regulations, importers will be required to apply to related competent authorities for licensing documents before importation to expedite customs clearance. Failure to comply with the aforementioned import regulations could lead to delayed clearance or penalty, which would outweigh the benefits.
Lastly, Customs Administration calls on the public not to purchase controlled goods such as live plants, animals, or products thereof from abroad. Under fortified border enforcement exerted by Customs, once individuals are found to have illegally imported quarantined or other controlled goods, such as meat products or seeds, they will be referred to relevant competent authorities for further investigation and may face serious penalties. The public is advised to be careful about customs clearance regulations before shopping online, so that they will enjoy secure and faciliated customs clearance services.
