To improve air quality by reducing air pollution from old heavy-duty diesel vehicles, those who scrap their bus, heavy truck, huge passenger-cargo dual-purpose car, substitutional bus, or big-sized specially constructed vehicle which comply with the regulations, purchase one of the aforementioned new vehicles, and complete the vehicle registration between August 18, 2017 and December 31, 2026, shall be eligible to have the commodity tax on the new vehicle reduced by a maximum amount of NT$400,000. Where the commodity tax payable on the new vehicle is less than NT$400,000, the reduction shall be calculated as the amount of commodity tax payable.
The National Taxation Bureau of the Northern Area(NTBNA), Ministry of Finance said that consumers can check on the status of consumers’ commodity tax refund themselves through not only phone inquiries, but also through online means using the following steps:
1. Search for “eTax Portal, Ministry of Finance” or enter the URL <www.etax.nat.gov.tw >.
2. Click on “Tax Refund of New Purchased Vehicle in Replacement of Discarded Vehicle Area” in the hot links section of the homepage. Click on the “Consumer Progress Inquiry” after entering the next page.
3. Key in the license plate number of old and new vehicles.
