The National Taxation Bureau of the Northern Area (NTBNA), Ministry of Finance notes that the National Immigration Agency, Ministry of the Interior has started implementing the new system of UI No. for foreign nationals on January 2nd, 2021. To smoothly make tax payment transactions or refund transfers, alien taxpayers filing individual income tax for the year 2020 should be aware that the ARC No. they use to log into the electronic tax-filing program needs to be consistent with the ARC No. retained by the financial institutions/post office.
NTBNA explains that taxpayers can download the alien electronic tax-filing program from the e-Filing and Tax Payment Service website of the Ministry of Finance at https://tax.nat.gov.tw to file their tax. Those who want to pay tax via credit card or savings account should make sure that their ARC No. retained by the financial institution / post office is consistent with the declared ARC No. filed on their tax return. The financial institution / post office can obtain online credit card authorization or conduct tax payment transactions via savings account only if the ARC No. is consistent with that filed on their tax return. Furthermore, if the ARC No. of the appointed bank account for receiving tax refund declared by the taxpayer when filing tax is not consistent with that retained by the financial institution / post office, the tax refund will not be able to be deposited into the appointed bank account and as a result, the tax refund will have to be made by issuing a treasury check.
NTBNA advises taxpayers to choose to receive their tax refund via bank account, which is timesaving, safe, and convenient. Those who have received their new UI No. for foreign nationals must make sure that the ARC No. retained by the financial institution / post office is consistent with the ARC No. filed on their tax returns so that the tax payment transactions or the transferred refund can be made smoothly.
