During the COVID-19 pandemic, some people may import drugs via express cargo or international parcel. The Customs Administration reminds the public that a few cold, cough, pain relief, and sleeping pills contain Codeine, Dihydrocodeine, Zolpidem, Tramadol, Ephedrine, Pseudoephedrine, Methylephedrine, etc., which belong to narcotics promulgated in the Appendix of the Narcotics Hazard Prevention Act. Since the consignees of these drugs may have violated crimes of the Act, Customs transfers them to judicial police agencies for further investigation.
The Customs Administration urges people to understand the ingredients of drugs before purchasing them on-line or entrusting overseas relatives and friends to send them from abroad. Drugs containing narcotics are not allowed to be imported personally. Therefore, before importing drugs for personal use, consignees must apply for an import certificate issued by the Food and Drug Administration, Ministry of Health and Welfare (Taiwan FDA) in accordance with the Regulations on Management of Medicament Samples and Gifts. Further information and the online Application Platform can be found on the homepage of Taiwan FDA. (Home>Drugs>Registration>Drug Application for Personal Use https://www.fda.gov.tw/ENG/siteListContent.aspx?sid=10369&id=28123 ) If you have any questions, please call the Taiwan FDA service hotline 02-27878000.
